Lemosho or Marangu?

So this professional Kilimanjaro trekking package suits adventure seekers looking for one of the best Kilimanjaro climbing routes. It also suits anyone who wants Lemosho Route trekking with a guided team in Tanzania.

Itinerary

Your Mount Kilimanjaro adventure with Serengeti Wildlife Safaris begins with a pickup from Arusha or Moshi. Then you drive for 3–4 hours to Lemosho Gate. After registration and park permits, you trek through lush rainforest, home to colobus monkeys, exotic birds and endemic plants.

Later, you arrive at Big Tree Camp for dinner and the night. Unlike the huts on the climbing Kilimanjaro Marangu route, you sleep in tents here. Still, this first rainforest walk gives you a similarly gentle start to Kilimanjaro trekking.

Today you trek across the scenic Shira Plateau, past giant lobelias, senecios and alpine moorland. The high-altitude scenery also helps your acclimatization and offers unique photo opportunities.

Finally, you enjoy dinner and spend the night at Shira 1 Camp. Climbers often remark that this stage is shorter than on the Marangu Route. However, if you are comparing climbing Kilimanjaro Marangu with Lemosho, it offers similar acclimatization benefits.

Next, you continue across the Shira Plateau, with panoramic views of Kibo Peak and dramatic volcanic landscapes. Meanwhile, the focus stays on drinking enough water, adapting to altitude and preparing your body for higher elevations.

Then you spend the night at Shira 2 Camp. Your guides may also explain how this differs from the climbing Kilimanjaro Marangu route, since Lemosho gives you more time at high altitude.

First, you climb to Lava Tower (4,630 m), following the “climb high, sleep low” principle. Then you descend to Barranco Camp beneath the Barranco Wall for dinner and the night.

This stage shows how Lemosho’s route planning differs from the climbing Kilimanjaro Marangu route. For example, it offers a longer acclimatization trek and more varied alpine desert scenery.

First, you climb the Barranco Wall. Then you continue to Karanga Camp before reaching Barafu Camp, the base for the summit attempt.

Finally, you have dinner and rest at Barafu Camp. Meanwhile, your guides give you a summit briefing for the midnight ascent.

You begin the summit attempt at midnight. The trail crosses rocky, scree-covered ground until you reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) in time for sunrise views.

Afterwards, you descend to Barafu Camp and rest. Then you continue to Mweka Camp for dinner and the night. Many climbers also compare this summit day with the climbing Kilimanjaro Marangu route, because altitude exposure and route length differ.

On the last day, you complete the final descent to Mweka Gate and receive your summit certificates. Then we transfer you back to Arusha or Moshi, and your Lemosho Route Kilimanjaro climb comes to an end.
