Itinerary

Your Mount Kilimanjaro trekking adventure with Serengeti Wildlife Safaris begins with an early morning pickup from Arusha or Moshi. Then you drive 3–4 hours to Shira Gate on the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro. After registration and permits, you continue by 4x4 vehicle to the starting point on the Shira Plateau.

This first stage of the Shira Route Kilimanjaro 7 Day trek introduces you to the high-altitude environment. Meanwhile, you enjoy wide views of the plateau and the surrounding landscapes. Finally, by late afternoon, you arrive at Shira 1 Camp for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, you continue trekking across the scenic Shira Plateau, one of the most beautiful sections of Mount Kilimanjaro. The trail is gentle, so it is ideal for acclimatization. It also offers clear views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding volcanic formations.

During the Shira Route Kilimanjaro 7 Day journey, you pass giant lobelias and senecios, unique plants of high-altitude ecosystems. Later, you arrive at Shira 2 Camp for dinner and overnight.

Your Kilimanjaro trek continues with a steady climb toward Lava Tower at 4,630 meters. This follows the important “climb high, sleep low” acclimatization strategy. Along the way, the terrain becomes more alpine and dramatic, so you get a true high-mountain experience.

After you reach Lava Tower, you descend to Barranco Camp beneath the famous Barranco Wall. There you enjoy dinner and overnight.

The day begins with a climb up the Barranco Wall, one of the most exciting highlights of a Mount Kilimanjaro trek. Although it is steep, the climb is non-technical. It also rewards you with panoramic mountain views.

Next, this section of the Shira Route Kilimanjaro 7 Day itinerary continues through ridges and valleys toward Karanga Camp. This is an important acclimatization stop before the summit push. Finally, you enjoy dinner and overnight at Karanga Camp.

After breakfast, you continue climbing toward Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit attempt. Here the landscape becomes rocky and alpine, because you are entering the extreme environment of Mount Kilimanjaro.

This stage of the Shira Route Kilimanjaro 7 Day trek focuses on rest and preparation for the summit. First, your guide gives you a detailed briefing. Then you have an early dinner and rest.

The summit attempt begins at midnight, when you set off toward Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters, the highest point in Africa. This is the most demanding part of the climb, so it takes determination and endurance.

After you reach the summit and enjoy the sunrise views, you descend to Mweka Camp. Finally, you have dinner and spend the night there.

After breakfast, you descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, completing your Mount Kilimanjaro trek. There you complete exit formalities and receive your summit certificate. Then we transfer you back to Arusha or Moshi.

This marks the successful end of your 7 days Kilimanjaro Shira Route climbing adventure with Serengeti Wildlife Safaris.
