Your Mount Kilimanjaro trekking adventure with Serengeti Wildlife Safaris begins with an early morning pickup from Arusha or Moshi. Then a 2–3-hour drive takes you to Umbwe Gate, where our team completes registration and permits.

This first day of the umbwe route 5 day itinerary starts with a steep climb through dense rainforest. Here, giant trees, wildlife and rich biodiversity surround you, so it is an exciting introduction to Kilimanjaro trekking in Tanzania.

Soon, the trail becomes challenging as you climb through narrow ridges and thick forest. For this reason, the route suits experienced trekkers. Finally, by late afternoon, you arrive at Umbwe Camp for dinner and an overnight stay in the peaceful rainforest.

After breakfast, you continue your Kilimanjaro climb. First, you leave the rainforest and enter the moorland zone, with open landscapes and scenic valleys. This stage of the umbwe route 5 day trek also offers stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro’s ridges and dramatic terrain as you gradually gain altitude.

Near Barranco Camp, the Umbwe Route joins the Machame Route. This helps acclimatization, and you also enjoy breathtaking views of the famous Barranco Wall. Later, you arrive at Barranco Camp in the afternoon for dinner and an overnight stay beneath the towering cliffs.

This is one of the most exciting days of the umbwe route 5 day climb. First, you tackle the Barranco Wall, a non-technical but thrilling climb. At the top, spectacular views of glaciers and valleys reward you. Then the trail continues across alpine desert terrain toward Barafu Camp.

To keep the fast pace of the climb, you skip Karanga Camp. So this is a demanding but efficient Kilimanjaro trekking experience. When you reach Barafu Camp, you rest, enjoy an early dinner and prepare for the midnight summit attempt.

As part of the umbwe route 5 day journey, the summit attempt begins at midnight. You trek under the stars toward Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters), the highest point in Africa. This challenging climb requires endurance and determination. However, reaching the summit at sunrise brings unforgettable views and a lifetime achievement.

After celebrating at Uhuru Peak, you descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest. Then you continue down to Mweka Camp for dinner and an overnight stay. This completes the summit stage.

After breakfast, you descend through the lush rainforest along the Mweka Route. Meanwhile, you enjoy the final moments of your Mount Kilimanjaro trekking adventure with Serengeti Wildlife Safaris.

The trail leads to Mweka Gate, where you complete the exit formalities and receive your summit certificates. Afterwards, we transfer you back to Arusha or Moshi. This marks the end of your successful 5-day Kilimanjaro climbing experience in Tanzania.
