Itinerary

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you’ll be warmly welcomed by a Serengeti Wildlife Safaris driver who will transfer you to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. Depending on your arrival time, you can relax and explore the area. In the evening, your mountain guide will meet you for a full briefing about the climb, gear check, and final preparations for your Kilimanjaro expedition.

After breakfast, our team will drive you approximately 3 to 4 hours to Lemosho Gate. Upon registration, you’ll begin your hike through the lush rainforest where you may encounter blue and black-and-white colobus monkeys. After about 3 to 4 hours of walking, you’ll arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp. Enjoy dinner and rest overnight in comfortable tents.

Today’s trek covers 7 km and takes around 4–5 hours. You'll gradually ascend from montane forest into moorland, with beautiful views of valleys and ridges. After reaching Shira 1 Camp, enjoy lunch and relax while admiring views of Shira Plateau and the distant Kibo Peak

A shorter but important acclimatization day, this 10 km trek takes 3–4 hours. You’ll visit Shira Cathedral (3,872m) en route and enjoy expansive views of the plateau. After arriving at Shira 2 Camp, enjoy lunch, rest, and take an optional acclimatization hike before dinner.

This challenging yet vital day for acclimatization includes a hike up to Lava Tower (4,600m), followed by a descent to Barranco Camp. The trek takes 6–7 hours. You may feel the effects of altitude today, but this climb-high-sleep-low strategy will help your body adjust. Overnight at Barranco Camp.

After breakfast, you’ll face the exciting Barranco Wall climb. The trail then follows a series of ridges and valleys before arriving at Karanga Camp. This 6 km hike takes 3–4 hours. Enjoy panoramic views of glaciers, Mount Meru, and vast alpine landscapes.

This is your final push before summit night. The 4 km trek to Barafu Camp takes about 3–4 hours. Upon arrival, you'll have lunch and rest. Dinner is served early so you can sleep before waking around midnight for your summit attempt.

Summit day! After a midnight wake-up and a light snack, begin your trek to Stella Point (5,756m) and onward to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Take photos and enjoy the views before descending to Barafu for rest and lunch, then continue down to Mweka Camp for overnight.

After breakfast, begin the final 10 km descent through rainforest to Mweka Gate. Once you receive your summit certificate, celebrate with the team and enjoy lunch. You’ll then be transferred back to Moshi or Arusha for a well-earned shower and relaxation at your hotel.

After breakfast and some rest, we will transfer you to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK) for your departure flight. This marks the end of your incredible Kilimanjaro adventure with Serengeti Wildlife Safaris.
