Your Magoroto Forest day trip begins early in the morning. First, a Serengeti Wildlife Safaris guide picks you up from your hotel in Tanga, Lushoto or a nearby town. Then you head into the lush Eastern Usambara Mountains. Soon, cool mists and dense greenery welcome you to one of Tanzania’s hidden gems: Magoroto Forest Estate.
The estate sits at an altitude of 850 meters above sea level. It also offers a unique blend of tropical rainforest, spice plantations and a secluded freshwater lake, perfect for swimming and canoeing. As soon as you arrive, you notice the scent of cloves, black pepper, cardamom and cinnamon, which all grow on the estate.
Forest walk and lake time
Your adventure starts with a guided nature walk along the forest trails. Along the way, keep an eye out for monkeys, exotic butterflies and rare birds that make this lush habitat their home. Meanwhile, your guide shares stories about the area’s German colonial history. You also learn about the ecological importance of the Eastern Arc Mountains.
