Your walking safari in Tanzania begins with a morning pickup from your accommodation by your experienced Serengeti Wildlife Safaris guide. Then a short drive takes you to Arusha National Park. This gem is easy to overlook, yet it is full of stunning scenery and diverse wildlife. Nestled at the base of Mount Meru, the park blends many habitats, from lush montane forests and open savannah to sparkling lakes and volcanic craters.
Once inside the park, you begin your game drive through a landscape rich with giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, warthogs, baboons and various antelope species. Although big cats are rare here, the park is a birder’s paradise. For example, it is home to flamingos, hornbills and the elusive Narina trogon. On clear days, you also enjoy magnificent views of both Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro, perfect for photos.
Next, the morning continues with a visit to the Momella Lakes, known for their striking colours and large flocks of pink flamingos. You may also enjoy a guided walking safari with an armed ranger. This is a special chance to stretch your legs and get close to wildlife on foot.
Later, enjoy your picnic lunch in a scenic spot, perhaps near the Ngurdoto Crater. Locals call it the “Little Ngorongoro” because of its impressive shape and lush interior.
In the afternoon, you head out on another game drive. Alternatively, you can join an optional canoeing safari on the lake (advance request required). After that, you begin your return journey to Arusha. Finally, you arrive back at your hotel or the airport in the early evening, at the end of a perfect day full of nature, wildlife and breathtaking views.
