Itinerary

Your Mount Meru adventure begins with a morning pickup from your hotel in Arusha, followed by a scenic drive to Momella Gate in Arusha National Park. After completing the necessary registration, you’ll start your trek through the lush forest, where you might encounter local wildlife such as giraffes, buffalo, and various bird species. The journey to Miriakamba Hut is relatively moderate, taking approximately 4 to 5 hours. Along the way, you’ll be able to admire the beautiful surroundings, including the unique flora and fauna of the park. Once you arrive at Miriakamba Hut, you’ll rest and acclimatize before the more challenging ascent on the next day.

After a hearty breakfast, you’ll begin your ascent to Saddle Hut, a more alpine environment offering breathtaking views of Mount Meru's craters. This trek will take about 4 to 5 hours, passing through changing landscapes from forest to alpine meadows and rocky terrain. The higher you climb, the more dramatic the views become, with stunning panoramas of the surrounding area and a glimpse of Kilimanjaro in the distance. Saddle Hut offers incredible views of the crater and surrounding valleys, making it an ideal spot to rest and acclimatize. You’ll rest preparing for the summit attempt which begins around the midnight.

The final day begins early around 10: OOPM so that you can reach the summit, by sunrise. The climb to the top is demanding, but the rewards are worth it. As you ascend, you will pass through rugged terrain, volcanic ash, and rocky ridgelines, with incredible views of the surrounding craters. The summit itself offers a panoramic view of the Serengeti Plains, Ngorongoro Crater, and Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance, making the effort worthwhile. After reaching the summit and enjoying the moment, you’ll begin your descent, first returning to Saddle Hut for a brief rest and then descending to Miriakamba Hut. From there, you’ll continue your final descent to Momella Gate, completing the trek in about 10-12 hours. After finishing the climb, a driver from Serengeti Wildlife Safaris Company will transport you back to Arusha, where you can reflect on your achievement.
