Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park, established in 1970, spans roughly 2,850 km² of baobab-studded plains, seasonally flooded grasslands, and granitic ridges, all centered around the life-giving Tarangire River. Renowned for hosting the highest elephant densities in Tanzania, it forms the heart of the greater Tarangire Ecosystem — home to the second-largest migratory ungulate herds in East Africa. Wildlife viewing peaks during the dry months (July–November), when animals congregate around permanent water sources. The park’s relative solitude, dramatic landscapes, and rich biodiversity make it a compelling alternative or complement to its more famous neighbor, the Serengeti.
