Your Kilimanjaro experience begins at Marangu Gate, where you'll meet your experienced mountain crew from Serengeti Wildlife Safaris. After completing registration, begin trekking through the dense Kilimanjaro rainforest, home to blue monkeys, Colobus monkeys, and vibrant birdlife. You'll arrive at Mandara Hut, a forested resting point with dormitory-style huts. This day helps your body begin adapting to the high-altitude environment.
After breakfast, the trail ascends through moorland filled with giant lobelias and high-altitude heather. Enjoy spectacular views of Mawenzi Peak, one of Kilimanjaro's rugged volcanic cones. The route is open and scenic, perfect for acclimatization and photography. Arrive at Horombo Hut, offering views across the plains of Tanzania and your first look at Kibo Peak, your final summit goal.
Today's trek takes you into the dry alpine desert zone, crossing the iconic saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks. The landscape is stark, with volcanic rocks and little vegetation. This part of the Marangu Route is more physically demanding due to increasing elevation. You’ll arrive at Kibo Hut, your base for the final summit push. An early dinner and rest are essential for the overnight ascent to Uhuru Peak.
Summit night begins at midnight. Trek under a sky full of stars toward Gilman’s Point (5,685m) before reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Witness a stunning sunrise above the clouds truly a life-changing moment on your Mount Kilimanjaro tour. After celebrating, descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest and then continue down to Horombo Hut for your final night on the mountain.
After breakfast, begin your descent through the heath and rainforest zones, enjoying the return of lush scenery and wildlife like Colobus monkeys and tropical birds.
