Simba Camp to Kikelelwa Camp

Duration: 5-6 hours

6 Days Rongai Route continues with a beautiful trek through the moorland zone , leading to Kikelelwa Camp at 3,600 meters. The hike takes approximately 5–6 hours with a gradual ascent and breathtaking views of surrounding valleys and the towering Kibo Peak . Unique vegetation such as giant heathers and lobelias line the path. Kikelelwa Camp provides excellent views of both Mawenzi Peak and Kibo Peak, creating a serene setting for rest. On arrival, trekkers can relax, enjoy a hearty meal, and absorb the natural beauty surrounding the camp.

Kikelelwa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Hut

Duration: 4-5 hours

6 Days Rongai Route reaches Mawenzi Tarn Hut on Day 3 after a 4–5-hour hike to an altitude of 4,330 meters. The alpine desert landscape features towering rocky formations and dramatic views of Mawenzi Peak . The terrain becomes more barren as elevation increases, but the panoramic vistas remain breathtaking. Mawenzi Tarn offers striking views of the jagged ridges of Mawenzi Peak and serves as an excellent acclimatization point. Mawenzi Tarn Hut to Kibo Camp

Duration: 5-6 hours

6 Days Rongai Route progresses toward Kibo Camp at 4,700 meters on Day 4, with a 5–6-hour trek through the alpine desert zone showcasing the stark beauty of the high-altitude landscape. The path crosses rocky terrain with expansive views of both Mawenzi Peak and Kibo Peak . Kibo Camp provides a place to rest and prepare for the summit attempt . A warm meal is served early in the evening to allow time for sleep before the overnight climb to the summit.

Summit Day! Kibo Camp to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Camp

Duration: 12-14 hours

THE SUMMIT DAY! 6 Days Rongai Route reaches its most challenging and rewarding stage on summit day, with the climb to Uhuru Peak beginning around midnight to catch the sunrise at the summit. The trek includes steep ascents and cold, windy conditions, leading first to Stella Point at 5,756 meters on the crater rim, followed by a final 45-minute push to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters. The summit offers breathtaking views of glaciers and the vast African landscape. After celebrating and capturing the moment, the descent to Horombo Camp at 3,720 meters begins. The descent takes 5–6 hours, ending with well-earned rest after a fulfilling day.

Horombo Camp to Marangu Gate

Duration: 7-9 hours

On the final day of your adventure, you’ll descend from Horombo Camp to Marangu Gate, a journey of about 7-9 hours. The descent takes you through Moorland and then lush rainforest, offering a beautiful contrast to the higher, barren slopes. Along the way, you may spot wildlife such as monkeys, birds, and other flora and fauna. Upon reaching Marangu Gate, you will complete your climb by signing out and receiving your well-earned summit certificate. The Serengeti Wildlife Safaris team will transport you back to your hotel in Moshi/ Arusha for a celebratory dinner and relaxation after your incredible achievement.
