Day 1: From Arusha or Moshi to Machame Gate to Machame Camp

The drive from Arusha or Moshi to Machame Gate takes about 50 minutes. After registration at Machame Gate, we begin to hike Kilimanjaro from there to Machame Camp.
After breakfast on this day, we leave the glades of the rain forest and continue on an ascending way, crossing the valley along a steep, rocky ridge. The route now turns west into a river gorge until we arrive at the Shira camp.
The climber(s) and team walk on a gentle ascent with panoramic views. We will traverse the southwest side of Mount Kilimanjaro, passing underneath the Lava Tower and the final section of the Western Breach, and after a hot lunch at the bottom of the Lava Tower, then we descend to the bottom of Barranco Valley.
We leave Barranco after breakfast and continue on a steep ridge up the Barranco wall, through the Karanga Valley, to the junction, which connects with the Mweka Trail. We continue up to the Barafu Camp on this day.
From midnight to 2:00 a.m., the hiker(s) and the team will continue hiking towards the summit between the Rebmann and Reitzel glaciers. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek! At Stella Point, you will stop for a short rest and be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you have ever seen. Once at Uhuru Peak, you have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro! We will descend to Mweka Camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
After breakfast, we continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. Our driver will meet you at Mweka Gate and drive you back to your booked hotel in Moshi or Arusha.
