This 6-day itinerary is carefully designed to allow for proper acclimatization, enhancing your chances of summiting safely and successfully. Begin your journey by flying into Kilimanjaro International Airport, where a Serengeti Wildlife Safaris driver will welcome you and transport you to your hotel in Moshi. Once you arrive, you will meet your mountain guide for an essential briefing and gear check, ensuring that you are fully prepared for the adventure ahead.

Tour Plan

Day 1 is an exciting start to your Kilimanjaro climb, beginning with an early morning pick-up from your hotel by your guide and climbing team. After a hearty breakfast, you will travel to Machame Gate, which takes around two hours by car. Once at the gate, you will go through registration, and after all the necessary formalities, you will start your hike toward Machame Camp, which is situated about 11 kilometers from the gate. The trek takes approximately 5-6 hours and passes through the lush montane forest zone, filled with exotic flora and fauna. As you hike, you'll be enveloped by the sounds of birds, monkeys, and the hum of the forest, making it a serene and immersive experience. Once you reach Machame Camp, your tent will be ready for you, allowing you to rest and settle in. After a refreshing wash, enjoy a hot tea and a satisfying dinner, preparing for the next day's ascent.

Day 2 begins with a hearty breakfast before embarking on a short but steeper climb to Shira Cave Camp. Although the hike is only about 5 kilometers, it involves some rock scrambling, making it a bit more challenging. The terrain transitions into the Moorland zone, characterized by shorter trees and shrubs. This zone offers incredible views of Kilimanjaro and the surrounding landscape. As you hike, you'll experience a gradual ascent, allowing your body to adjust to the higher altitudes. The trek takes approximately 4-5 hours, and once you arrive at Shira Cave Camp, you’ll be greeted with a freshly prepared lunch. After eating, you'll have time to rest and enjoy the scenery. In the afternoon, you’ll embark on a short acclimatization walk to help your body adjust to the altitude. This is a critical day for preparing your body for the higher altitudes ahead. In the evening, you’ll enjoy a warm dinner and rest, preparing for the next day's journey.

Day 3 offers a longer hike, as you’ll cover a distance of approximately 10 kilometers. After an early breakfast, you will begin your ascent toward Lava Tower, located at 4,600 meters. The hike to Lava Tower is a challenging one, as you’ll be gaining significant altitude, which can cause mild symptoms of altitude sickness. However, this is an important day for acclimatization. Your guide will be with you every step of the way, providing helpful tips on staying hydrated and pacing yourself. After reaching Lava Tower and enjoying a well-earned lunch, you will begin your descent toward Barranco Camp, situated at 3,950 meters. The descent helps with acclimatization by allowing your body to adjust to the higher altitudes. Upon reaching Barranco Camp, you’ll be able to relax and recuperate. This day is pivotal in the acclimatization process, as it challenges your body to adjust to both the ascent and descent at high altitudes.

On Day 4, the climb continues with a challenging 10-kilometer trek that begins with the ascent of the Barranco Wall, a steep rock face that requires some technical scrambling. Once you conquer this obstacle, the terrain opens up with rolling hills and valleys, offering spectacular views of Mount Meru, Kibo Peak, and the surrounding glaciers. The journey to Barafu Camp takes about 7-8 hours, and along the way, you’ll pass through the Karanga Valley, where you’ll stop for lunch at Karanga Camp. As you continue on your way to Barafu Camp, you’ll be treated to some of the most awe-inspiring vistas of Kilimanjaro. When you reach Barafu Camp, located at 4,673 meters, you’ll rest and prepare for the night ahead. After a nutritious dinner, you’ll retire early to rest up for the summit push that will begin in the middle of the night. It’s important to conserve your energy, as the next day is the most physically demanding part of the climb.

Day 5 is the most challenging and exhilarating day of the entire climb. After a brief rest, you’ll wake up in the middle of the night, have a light snack, and begin your summit attempt. The hike to Uhuru Peak is long and strenuous, with the cold, wind, and thin air adding to the difficulty. You’ll make your way through the night, following a well-trodden path toward Stella Point at 5,756 meters, where you’ll take a short break. From Stella Point, it’s a mere 45 minutes to the summit, and as you approach Uhuru Peak, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the sunrise over the African landscape. Reaching Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters is a monumental achievement, and you'll have time to take photos and celebrate your success. Afterward, you’ll descend to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest and a hot meal. The descent helps to reduce altitude-related symptoms and prepare for the final leg of your journey.

The final day of your Kilimanjaro adventure begins with a hearty breakfast at Mweka Camp before you descend to the Mweka Gate, which is about 10 kilometers away. The descent takes 2-3 hours and passes through the rainforest, offering a refreshing change in scenery after the dry alpine zones. Upon reaching Mweka Gate, you’ll sign out and receive your summit certificate, commemorating your successful climb. Afterward, your guide will take you to a nearby restaurant for a celebratory lunch with your team, where you can share stories from your unforgettable journey. Once you’ve celebrated your victory, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi for a much-needed shower and rest, reflecting on the incredible achievement you’ve made on your journey to the roof of Africa.
