Known for its stunning landscapes, varied ecosystems, and gradual ascent, the Lemosho Route allows for optimal acclimatization, reducing the risks of altitude sickness. Our 7-day itinerary is designed to give you sufficient time to ascend slowly and steadily, ensuring that your body adjusts to the higher altitudes. This adventure will take you through rainforests, moorlands, and rocky terrain, offering unforgettable views and a truly remarkable experience that will stay with you forever. Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your Serengeti Wildlife Safaris driver will meet you and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi, where you will relax and prepare for your upcoming adventure. Depending on your arrival time, you will have time to rest and enjoy the welcoming atmosphere of Moshi. In the evening, you will be introduced to your experienced mountain guide, who will brief you on the entire itinerary and what to expect during the climb. This is also the time to go over your gear, ensuring you have everything needed for a safe and successful ascent. With the briefing complete, you’ll be ready to start your journey the next day with confidence and excitement.

Tour Plan

On Day 1, after a hearty breakfast, the Serengeti Wildlife Safaris team will pick you up and drive you to Lemosho Gate. The journey to the gate will take about three hours, with scenic stops along the way. Upon arrival at the gate, you will register and enjoy a delicious lunch before starting your trek. The hike to Mti Mkubwa Camp is a gentle 3-hour walk through lush rainforest, where you’ll have the chance to spot black-and-white colobus monkeys and blue monkeys. As you walk, you’ll be immersed in the vibrant sounds and sights of the forest. Upon reaching Mti Mkubwa Camp, you’ll be treated to a well-deserved dinner and rest, ready for the adventures of the next day.

After breakfast, you’ll begin the challenging yet beautiful 17km trek to Shira Two Camp, which will take 7-8 hours. As you hike, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the surrounding landscape, with the trail offering a mix of uphill and downhill sections. The early part of the day will include some steeper terrain, but you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramas. As you near Shira One Camp, you’ll take a break for lunch before continuing on to Shira Two Camp. This final stretch of the hike will allow you to enjoy the wide-open spaces of the Shira Plateau. Upon arrival, you’ll relax, enjoy a delicious meal, and settle into camp for a peaceful night of rest.

Day 3 is a critical day for acclimatization. You’ll start with an early breakfast and then hike slowly to Lava Tower, located at 4,600 meters. This challenging ascent will give your body the opportunity to adjust to the high altitude. Once at Lava Tower, you’ll take a break and have lunch, while soaking in the stunning views. The trek to Lava Tower is tough, but it is a crucial part of your acclimatization process. After lunch, you’ll begin the descent to Barranco Camp at 3,950 meters. Descending is important for preventing altitude sickness, and this part of the trek will allow your body to adjust to the elevation. Upon reaching Barranco Camp, you’ll relax, have dinner, and prepare for the following day’s climb.

Day 4 is a relatively short day, with a 6-kilometer trek to Karanga Camp. The journey begins with the famous Barranco Wall, a steep climb that offers an exciting challenge and a great sense of accomplishment once you reach the top. After overcoming the Barranco Wall, the terrain flattens out, and the trail continues with several ups and downs as you make your way to Karanga Camp. The hike will take about 3-4 hours, and along the way, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of the valleys, massive rocks, and glaciers on the distant Kibo Peak. Upon reaching Karanga Camp, you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch and have time to rest while admiring the stunning landscape. Afterward, relax and prepare for the next day’s ascent.

On Day 5, after an early breakfast, you’ll begin your trek to Barafu Camp, located at 4,673 meters. The hike takes around 4-5 hours, and as you ascend, you’ll feel the effects of the higher altitude. Upon reaching Barafu Camp, you’ll have lunch and take some time to relax. The climb to the summit begins in the middle of the night, so it’s essential to conserve your energy. Rest as much as possible during the day to ensure you are well-prepared for the final push to Uhuru Peak. After dinner, you’ll get some rest, as you’ll need to wake up in the early hours of the morning to begin your summit attempt.

Day 6 is the ultimate challenge: the summit attempt. You’ll wake up in the middle of the night, have a light snack, and start your climb to Uhuru Peak. The journey to the summit is tough, with freezing temperatures, strong winds, and thin air, but your determination will drive you forward. You’ll pass Stella Point at 5,756 meters, and from there, it’s only 45 minutes to Uhuru Peak. As you approach the summit, the sunrise will reward you with breathtaking views. Once you reach Uhuru Peak, you’ll take photos and enjoy the moment before starting your descent. The descent to Mweka Camp is long but manageable, and once there, you’ll rest and enjoy a well-deserved lunch.

On the final day, you’ll enjoy a relaxing breakfast before starting the descent to Mweka Gate, about 10 kilometers away. This 2–3-hour hike through the rainforest will give you time to reflect on your incredible journey. Upon reaching Mweka Gate, you’ll sign out and receive your summit certificate, commemorating your achievement. Afterward, you’ll celebrate your success with the climbing team before heading back to your hotel for a refreshing shower and well-earned rest. Your unforgettable Kilimanjaro adventure will be complete, and you’ll leave with a deep sense of accomplishment, knowing that you’ve conquered one of the world’s most iconic mountains.
