The Machame Route 8-Day Adventure is an unforgettable journey, offering climbers a unique opportunity to experience the diverse landscapes and stunning scenery of Mount Kilimanjaro. Known for its excellent acclimatization schedule, this route leads you through lush rainforests, alpine meadows, and rocky terrain, making it one of the most scenic and popular ways to reach the summit.

Tour Plan

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, your Serengeti Wildlife Safaris driver will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in either Arusha or Moshi. Here, you'll have a briefing with your mountain guide to review your gear and prepare for the upcoming adventure.

After an early breakfast, you'll drive to Machame Gate, where the adventure officially begins. The hike to Machame Camp is approximately 11 km, taking about 5-6 hours through the lush montane forest zone. As you settle into camp, your tents will be set up, and you'll have time to relax, enjoy a hot meal, and prepare for the next day's ascent.

Today’s hike is a short yet steep 5 km trek, taking you into the Moorland zone of Kilimanjaro. The trail offers stunning views as you climb towards Shira Cave Camp. After a brief acclimatization walk, you’ll relax, enjoy a well-earned lunch, and rest in preparation for the upcoming challenge.

This is a day of contrasts as you hike to Lava Tower, one of the highest points on the route, before descending to Barranco Camp. The hike, about 10 km in total, will test your endurance at high altitudes, offering the perfect opportunity for acclimatization. The rocky terrain near Lava Tower gives climbers spectacular views, and after lunch, you'll descend to Barranco Camp to rest.

Today, you’ll tackle the challenging Barranco Wall, an impressive rock formation that marks the beginning of a 6 km hike. The journey will take you 3-4 hours, offering magnificent views of the valleys below, Mount Meru, and the snow-capped Kibo peak. Once you reach Karanga Camp, you’ll enjoy lunch and have time to relax before resting for the night.

An early start will bring you to Barafu Camp, the base camp for your summit attempt. The 6 km trek is relatively easy, but the real challenge will come later in the night when you begin your summit journey. Use the day to relax and conserve energy as you prepare for the midnight climb.

At midnight, you’ll begin your ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro. The climb is strenuous and cold, but the reward is the breathtaking sunrise at the summit. Once you reach the peak, take in the panoramic views, snap a few photos, and then descend to Mweka Camp, where you'll rest and enjoy a well-deserved lunch.

The final leg of your trek takes you down through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you’ll sign out and receive your summit certificate. After celebrating with your crew, you'll head back to your hotel for a refreshing shower and a rest, marking the end of your incredible Kilimanjaro adventure.

Throughout the journey, Serengeti Wildlife Safaris recommends tipping your dedicated crew as a gesture of appreciation for their hard work. This 8-day Machame Route adventure is a perfect balance of challenge, beauty, and accomplishment, making it an experience you'll never forget!
